TL;DR
At StudyPortals I worked as a UX Designer part of a Scrum team comprised of a; PO, 2 front-enders and 2 back-enders on the Best Fit tool optimised for responsive web. The tool is a way for users to gather how well they match with a specific Masters programme abroad based on their past academic experiences and budget. This information is gathered through a series of questions, where as you can imagine, drop-off rates were our mortal enemy. Users are students but customers of the company are universities, posing interesting challenges balancing B2C with B2B elements. The article focuses on how I turned the tool completion rate from 65% to above 90% by focusing on improving usability and interaction with the most prevalent input method of the tool: dropdowns. I’m particularly proud of this one, as the company was also awarded the PIEoneer Digital innovation of the year award for our work on the tool in 2018.
